The Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History

Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History

Built in 1976, the Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History is located at 101 S. Independence Mall East, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The museum opened its doors with a humble beginning—there were only 40 objects on display—but it has grown to have one of the largest collections of American Judaica in the world, today featuring over 30,000 objects. To further lend to the museum's reach and credibility, it is also a Smithsonian Affiliate, meaning it has access to all of their collections and resources as well.

"The Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History, on Independence Mall in Philadelphia, presents educational programs and experiences that preserve, explore, and celebrate the history of Jews in America. Its purpose is to connect Jews more closely to their heritage and to inspire in people of all backgrounds a greater appreciation for the diversity of the American Jewish experience and the freedoms to which Americans aspire."

A noble aspiration indeed.

Aside from all the historical objects on display for visitors to explore, the museum also features an incredible Museum Store that is open 7 days a week. Inside, you can find a wide array of Judaica art, jewelry, children's items, and extensive holiday items too, including Hanukkah gifts, like menorah.

For over 20 years, Acme Animal has built a strong working relationship with the Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History. They have carried our quirky menorah for many years. and we couldn't be happier to support them in their mission to inspire, engage, and grow the imagination of the American people and their relationship with Jewish people. In fact, a new order went out to them with a shipment of fresh moose, whales, and other signature Acme menorah just the other day.

Philly is a city of history, art, culture, and community, and the Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History is a big part of it. Make a point to visit the next time you go.
